Network Box UK offers cloud solution for web surfing and email scanning

7/10/09

Network Box UK, the managed security company, now offers its customers a ‘cloud’ security solution for web surfing and email scanning.  Following their policy of selecting the “best of breed” for their customers, the solution is based on Webroot’s Web Security Software as a Service (SaaS).  The new cloud security solution is being offered to Network Box UK customers from 1 October 2009.

The product is designed to complement existing Network Box services, by offering customers a choice of filtering web content and emails either through the company system, or ‘in the cloud’.

Network Box UK is recommending the cloud solution for to customers with the following requirements:

  • Customers who have a large number of roaming or home users who require a web access security system. The Webroot solution avoids remote workers having to connect to the office system via a VPN, but means that IT managers can still ensure that those workers comply with corporate security policies
  • Customers who require off-site, backed up email archiving facilities.
  • Customers who want to send encrypted emails to third parties who do not have encryption set up on their email server.  By utilising the cloud, an encrypted email can be made available on a website that the remote end must logon to over https. This keeps the email secure at all times.
  • Spam scanning: In some circumstances it can be beneficial for companies that are seeing their bandwidth being dominated by spam to switch to using spam filtering in the cloud..
  • Disaster Recovery, as back up to existing services. If a company’s email server becomes unavailable or the company’s office itself is inaccessible, then the cloud service can provide access to company email allowing that part of the company to continue working.

Network Box UK will advise customers on whether a cloud-based or customer premises system is the best to meet their individual requirements. The service will become part of Network Box UK’s total unified threat management security service products.

Simon Heron, Internet Security Analyst for Network Box UK, says: “We have conducted a number of in-depth evaluation tests for a cloud service, and have chosen Webroot as it offers the level of service we are looking for from a cloud service. Cloud security is not right for everyone, but there are some circumstances where it can benefit customers, and we are advising our customers on a case by case basis.”
