PDD is a product innovation consultancy, working with some the world's leading brands, such as Sony Ericsson, Orange and Levis, in the invention, conception and development of products that are used in daily life. It employees 65 staff at its UK headquarters in London.

David Malcolm, Communications Manager, PDD Group, says: "We were using a separate anti-virus and a firewall but the performance wasn't good enough to cope with the high bandwidth requirements of the company. We needed a system that didn't reduce performance while still securing the network. We had heard about Unified Threat Management (UTM) systems and that fitted what we wanted."

Stopping viruses wasn't the only requirement at PDD; content filtering needed to be addressed too, and with a large volume of information being sent every day via the internet, system speed was also critical.

PDD started with only anti-virus and a firewall, but now has a complete UTM service to protect its network and deliver expert security. Malcolm adds; "Because it is a managed service it is simple and secure – exactly what we wanted. We don't need security experts in our IT department – we have a company with more expertise than we could ever need working for us."
